Future Park Planning
Castle Pines Park Designs
The City of Castle Pines is growing. With this growth, there is also a growing need for extraordinary park spaces for families within our community! As a result, the City began work to develop two park project master plans: the rejuvenation and expansion of Coyote Ridge Park and a new park known as Soaring Hawk Park. This master plan process is intended to incorporate the needs of the community so that everyone can play a part in the design of our local parks.
As we strategized and crafted this blueprint for the future, we focused on gathering input from residents. For these plans to be effective, we wanted each demographic in Castle Pines to be represented.
Hord Coplan Macht (the City’s landscape architect consultant) facilitated three interactive open house meetings (including a booth at Party in the Park) for families to attend in August 2023. A second round of public outreach began with a resident workshop at the Castle Pines Library on March 5. During this meeting, residents viewed concepts developed from the first round of outreach, provided feedback, and learned about the next steps.
After summarizing and reviewing resident feedback from the March 5, 2024 resident workshop and the March 2024 online survey, Hord Coplan Macht worked with the City’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to develop final draft concepts. These concepts were presented to the City Council during the June 11, 2024 Study Session.
One highly requested amenity was the inclusion of a pool facility. Following additional analysis, Hord Coplan Macht determined Soaring Hawk Park is not an ideal location for a pool facility and recommended additional research for a potential location and the viability of funding for a pool facility in the future.
City Council adopted the concept plans for both Coyote Ridge Park and Soaring Hawk Park during the August 27, 2024 City Council meeting. The concept plans are included in the 2024 Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plan.
bliPuc Engagement Results
The City and its design consultant used a ‘hands-on’ approach to the public process to actively engage in what proposed recreation amenities will be for both Coyote Ridge Park and Soaring Hawk Park. During the first part of the process, a variety of data collection techniques was used. This included “dot-voting” on your preferred park amenities, a park survey, and a “Parks and Recreation Game Board” where you will get to build your own park.

About Coyote Ridge Park
Coyote Ridge Park, spanning 40.5 acres, is an established park situated west of I-25. Presently, it offers a range of facilities such as a ball field, multi-use field, pickleball courts, basketball courts, playgrounds, shade structures, and a network of trails. As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the park’s connectivity and accessibility, we are excited to announce an expansion plan that will incorporate approximately 11 acres of available land located southwest of the current site. This expansion aims to evaluate the desire and opportunity for additional park amenities to further enrich the park experience for visitors.
About Soaring Hawk Park
Soaring Hawk Park is an expansive 74-acre regional park that will be situated east of I-25, within The Canyons development, and south of the Rueter-Hess Reservoir. This land serves as a blank canvas, offering a remarkable opportunity for a master plan design. The City wants to engage with the community and gather input on the countless possibilities that can be explored within this space, catering to the diverse facets of the community, and continuing to create connections with this part of the city.
